Did you buy the turkey? Are you on your way to Grandma’s house for the big meal? Or are you just hanging out, enjoying a bit of a breather?

There are a lot of things that have been making people wonder if we have much to be thankful for this year. But there are a few things I can add to my usual list that could be worthy of some dinner table discussion:

It’s no longer illegal for gay couples in Florida to adopt children.

There’s a chance that Barack Obama may make it cool for working dads to be more involved in their children’s daily lives. Or will he?

And I am thankful to be part of a larger political conversation that’s been growing online among women, and especially mothers. It’s exciting to me to think about what we can all accomplish if we continue to know that our involvement in the process — however we define that — can only bring more positive change for our families. Electing Barack Obama was the first step in the right direction for our country to dig itself out of the depths of an eight-year horror, but there’s a lot more work to do and political conversations to be had to keep things moving,
